Beastly Thoughts: X Series X and PS5
Let’s get this out there, it will be a d**k measuring contest for some when it comes to the Xbox Series X and PS5. To be honest outside of those that are fanboying for either side. Some of us are just glad we got a deeper idea of these systems. Well Microsoft gave us more of a marketing side of it vs. Sony. Either way let’s jump into our thoughts.
On a technical aspect the PS5 seems to be idealy powerful vs. the Xbox series X . Without getting too technical because a lot of you had steam coming out of their heads trying to stay awake watching the GDC stream. People made fun of the audio immersion feature for the PS5. If you think about it this will give you a greater experience when playing video games. This will make you feel like you are there and yes hearing does play a great importance when gaming. Nothing like playing a game and making you look around, especially with Virtual Reality being huge.
Personally, I wanted to know what could they do better for us as gamers because I felt as if we hit a ceiling when it comes to games. However, I am glad I was wrong. It was because I was ignorant to the technical aspect. With the 8X Zen 2 Cores at 3.5 GHZ which means they keep the power consumption the same. This will make things consistent when it comes to cooling which means your system won’t sound like it is taking flight! Also games will run in better performance.
The confusion personally was in “Variable Frequency” which I even looked at Mark Cerny like, “huh?” Here is why because the Xbox Series X is going to have the same specs just a bit higher. At 3.8GHZ (3.6GHZ with SMT) 7NM. It is just a little bit higher. Time will how this will play.
We have to admit that companies will make promises that they either won’t have at launch or take it back entirely. Consoles are like a disappointing relationship with some cat fishing. The load time promise is the biggest tease ever as we saw a small tech demo last year of what we are to expect when it comes to load speeds. Like you will load in a game at a blink of an eye. Even better you know when they have to load in an environment and they make it seem like you are in constant movement. Well that is the trick, being on a subway car in Spider-man or an Elevator ride is your loading times in PS4 and Xbox One games.
The promise here is that while you are traveling lets say in an open world game, while you are driving in or walking the land will be loading without you noticing. That is a bold statement and yes as this tik tok video would state, “Stop your lying and let me see!” That would be amazing and jaw dropping to experience that kind of loading.
Now there is some back-peddling about the backwards compatibility from what I heard last year that PS5 will be able to play up to PS1 titles. See what has me at a pass is that many games from old did not age well. Also keep in mind that many of our favorite games may not make it on the list. Usually they pick and choose which content will be playable digitally, because I am not going to believe that it will support full disc BC.
The second thing is wording. It is stated that from jump that the PS5 will play the TOP 100 PS4 games. Considering which they consider the top 100, do not bet that your game will be in that list. There are exactly 2499 games right now on the PS4 and only a hundred from that line up will be playable? Damn right I will keep my PS4 now with that kind of promise that frankly doesn’t sound that promising.
Wrap it Up!
At the end of the day we can move forward into knowing a bit more about the PS5. The Xbox Series X is so far leading a bit and I am surprised that Xbox is going the route of Sony. Being that there will be a unique memory card specific to the Series X. At the end of the day expect this beast to have both consoles because thats the kind of gamer I am. Many of us are just happy to have a bit more clarity.
Hopefully next month we can see a marketing side to the PS5 with how the console will look. I do not mind the PS4 designs with minor tweak. Either way, what say you fine gamers? Hit up the comments below to share your thoughts. – Beast Out –
